Aloha – We're Din and Bear and welcome to A Taste of the Islands, a blog about the dishes, spices and food of islands from around the world and a fusion of those and various Asian and U.S. Mainland dishes. ​

 

Neither of us have any formal training in the Culinary Arts, but have been learning, for more than 15 years. In my case it's been by trial and error (it was either learn to cook or starve). In Din's case her family had a street food cart and that's where she learned the art of Filipino cooking.  My "classes" were what I gleaned  from the Food Network and and many videos on YouTube. Then we got married in 2014 and now the cooking is split between Din and me. 

 

We look forward to reaching as many people as possible and share recipes and maybe a little food history with them. As well, we would love to receive any ideas, tweaks or upgrades others may have. Please tell your friends about the site and use the contact form below to let us know what you think.
